Volunteering
Friend In Need would not be able to do the work it does without the support of its volunteers. Around one hundred volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that our services meet the needs of our clients. Volunteers help escort on, and drive, the minibuses bringing in members to the day centre; serve lunches and help with day centre activities; give lifts in their cars to hospital appointments; do reception and admin duties in the FIN office; and befriend elderly and frail members of the local community. These are just some of the things that our volunteers do.
FIN volunteers work alongside FIN staff as part of a team. We greatly value and support our volunteers. We provide induction into all areas of work as well as ongoing support and training. The FIN training programme is run in conjunction with Barnet Health Promotion and Age Concern and covers a wide range of subjects of use and of interest to volunteers. Delivered by specialists in the field, all our training is free.
Edna Smalley has been a day centre volunteer for the past five years. She says, “I really enjoy coming, it is the main thing I look forward to in the week.” Volunteering is very rewarding both for volunteers and for the people they help. If you can spare just a couple of hours and would be interested in joining our team, please contact either John or Judy or just pop in for a chat.
