WORK AND LEISURE IN GOD'S WORLD

In this design, the cross stands at the centre of all human activity.  In the background, farm buildings, office blocks, power stations, hospitals, pit heads, theatres, radio-telescopes, etc. suggest the many human activities.  Representative foreground figures illustrate the theme of work and leisure.

But which figures represent work and which leisure?  The man using a pneumatic drill is presumably at work.  The child playing ball is enjoying leisure.  Or, is play really a child's work?  Is the woman using a hoe working for her living, or is she enjoying her leisure in her own garden?  Is the footballer a professional at work, or an amateur at leisure?  The ballet dancer represents the arts, but who can tell where the frontier lies between work and leisure there?

At a time of enforced "leisure" for many people, we need to re-think our interpretation of work and leisure.
