Helping Hands Services
This is a client-centred service under the auspices of the Friend In Need Community Centre (FIN) to support senior citizens in the Borough of Barnet. Like many of the projects undertaken by FIN, it is financially supported by the London Borough of Barnet. The core purpose of this scheme is to provide help for particular domestic tasks to enable clients to continue living independently, in their own homes. The aim is to enhance the quality of life of older adults who are unable to carry out domestic tasks themselves due to disability or infirmity.
The tasks within the scheme are shopping, pension/prescription collection, banking, bill payments and other related tasks. There will be a charge for performing these tasks. Services will normally be provided on a fortnightly basis and as long as required.
Those eligible for the service will be older than 65 unless a person has a disability, then Service Users will be considered from the age of 55; but in all instances assessments will be undertaken and potential Service Users will need to meet the criteria of the moderate to low risk categories as defined in the Department of Health Risk Reference Matrix.
Because of the nature of the funding and the locality of FIN, those wishing to access the scheme must be residents of the London Borough of Barnet.
Posters and referral forms for this scheme are circulated locally to Social and health Services, libraries, doctor's surgeries and voluntary organisations. If you would like a copy of the poster for distribution or more detailed information, please (click on this link) and print out a copy.
