Building to serve the Community 2007
East Barnet Baptist Church and Friend in need Community Centre are seeing a long-held dream come true. After many years of prayer, planning and
raising funds, the project to redevelop the site has at last commenced. The Church and FIN have taken on the huge challenge of this £600,000 development project to extend and upgrade the premises. This is a partnership to improve the facilities we provide for Church and Community.
What will the new development provide?
- Improved access to all parts of the building, by installing a wheel chair lift to the first floor and access lifts from the halls and main building. Upgrade external ramps to meet new regulations.
- Incorporation of the ground floor of the house into the main building and provide additional rooms for the Church office, Pastor’s office, Prayer Chapel and rooms for training and support groups.
- A new conservatory with access to the landscaped garden for members of our Day Care Centre. This will provide a much- needed change of environment and activity, especially in the Spring and Summer months.
- A new reception area.
- Rooms for small group activity for the Day Centre.
- Meeting rooms on the first floor for Training, Volunteer support and Carers groups.
- Improved facilities for our English language classes for Refugees.
- Space to start our Computer training programme for Carers, in partnership with Learn Direct. (We have the computers but no dedicated space to provide the training.)
- Upgrading of the sound reinforcement system and extending the loop to the whole building.
The builders arrived on site in mid January and work is expected to be completed by the end of July 2007.
